Vasan Sitthiket was born in Nakhorn Sawan and graduated from the College of Fine Art in Bangkok. A highly versatile painter, he is well-known for explicitly addressing problems in Thai society and his themes include the exploitation of the rural poor and pervasive corruption. Sitthiket exhibits regularly in Thailand and abroad and was included in the 2003 Venice Biennale. He has also written plays and is the author of over 10 books that include poetry and political commentary. Sitthiket’s work was recently bought by New York’s MoMA.
